50 Kisses Competition...100% free

Ammar Salmi (Level 5) ~ 4/12/2012 7:01 AM

To all moviepoet citizens:
London screenwriters' festival is hosting a competition this year, giving opportunities to both screenwriters and film-makers. A lot of creative directors and writers we got here, so go get them, tigers/tigresses. It's still too early for the dead-line though, but heads-up never hurt.

More info: bit.ly/Hz4su1

P.S. Caroline gonna love it. Hope she over look the messy grammar/punctuation above. :D

Caroline Coxon (Mod Emeritus) ~ 4/12/2012 9:05 AM

Oh great, thank you, Ammar. MJ and I are going to the screenwriters' festival TOGETHER. Watch out, London!

Masoud Soheili (Level 4) ~ 4/12/2012 9:07 AM

Seems nice!
Never write about it before,

Kissing is forbidden in Iranian films,

Lets see,what could I do... ;)

Bill Clar (Level 5) ~ 4/12/2012 9:52 AM

This is quite the challenge. Thanks for posting!

David M Troop (Level 5) ~ 4/15/2012 12:15 PM

Thanks for posting this Ammar.
I'm in.

Margaret Ricke (Level 5) ~ 4/17/2012 4:19 PM

Thanks, Ammar!

Masoud - You could write about the love between a parent and child, two friends, siblings...

I put my name in for round two - making the movies. I know, I know... My movie making track record sucks. If I don't put my name in now, though, I can't do it after the script list is released. You never know...

Bill Clar (Level 5) ~ 5/2/2012 11:14 AM

Finished my entry. Looking forward to see how other writers tackle a two pager on the subject.

David M Troop (Level 5) ~ 5/23/2012 11:40 AM

Sent off my entry. Fingers crossed.

Byron Matthews (Level 5) ~ 5/24/2012 11:33 AM

I suck at that love stuff. Now, if it was about farts and stuff, I would have a chance.

Ammar Salmi (Level 5) ~ 5/24/2012 1:49 PM

@Byron

Write about a woman who finds a magical infant on her doorstep. After she takes him in, she changes his dipper and clean him up. But when she try to kiss his arse cheek, he lets out a fart, which she inhales. She transforms into a Chocolate statuette of herself. Her life becomes endangered since it's Valentine's Day. MELTING BEAUTY

David M Troop (Level 5) ~ 5/24/2012 2:25 PM

I am so proud to be a Level 4 right now.

Byron Matthews (Level 5) ~ 5/24/2012 5:12 PM

@Ammar

See, that's good stuff. I feel I would be stealing from you. The part of her inhaling is fart just made me laugh.

Writing about love is tough for me.

Ammar Salmi (Level 5) ~ 5/24/2012 5:23 PM

It's not stealing if I made it up for you so you would give the contest a shot.

"Writing about love is tough for me."

I hear you.

Ammar Salmi (Level 5) ~ 6/26/2012 4:42 PM

Just a reminder, the deadline is closing in. It's June 29th. If you haven't written your two pages script yet, go and write it. Nothing to lose, think of it as an exercise. Don't let opportunities like these pass by. You never know, small achievements can be the start of great ones. Go on now, chop chop, summon up your scriptwriting application.

JeanPierre Chapoteau (Moderator) ~ 6/29/2012 3:51 PM

Finished. Who wants to trade reads?

JeanPierre Chapoteau (Moderator) ~ 6/29/2012 6:58 PM

No one else is entering I guess... weird...

Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 6/29/2012 8:09 PM

Jean, I don't have what it takes to write flash fiction. That's why I didn't enter the 50 kisses contest.

Ammar Salmi (Level 5) ~ 6/29/2012 8:12 PM

@JP
I sent you mine. :D

I forgot about the deadline. I also forgot that it needs to be set on Valentine’s Night. I'm useless. I'll be happy to read yours.

Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 6/29/2012 8:40 PM

Jean, you can send me an email and I'll see what I can review for you.

Bill Sarre (Level 5) ~ 6/30/2012 1:33 PM

Managed to get an entry in but with 2000 entries the odds are, well let's say, low. You never know.

Wes Worthing (Level 5) ~ 7/3/2012 9:56 AM

2000 entries equals at least 1500 that are complete crap. The organizers (guessing here) changed their minds and allowed 2 scripts from every writer because one script from each wasn't providing as many quality stories to choose from. With 500 or less qualifying scripts, a writer would have to make the top 10 percent to make top 50 - something many of us here have already done before in other contests including Moviepoet. I'll be surprised if a few MP'ers don't make the top-50.

Ammar Salmi (Level 5) ~ 7/3/2012 10:34 AM

When were the odds with us screenwriters? You do your best and you move on..

Wes Worthing (Level 5) ~ 7/3/2012 10:58 AM

I believe Caroline and MJ entered, and they both have the ability to make the cut. The talent pool at MP is tremendous, so, more sincere than cocky, I expect to see at least 4 MP'ers making top cut.

JeanPierre Chapoteau (Moderator) ~ 7/3/2012 12:22 PM

Why didn't we all exchange scripts? That would have raised our chances, ya think?

I didn't know we could enter two until it was too late. :(

Margaret Avnet (Level 4) ~ 7/3/2012 3:10 PM

I've entered the contest. Once I came up with the idea it was easy to write the script. Fingers crossed. Nothing ventured not gain. Best of luck to my fellow MPers who also entered. Wouldn't it be wild if all 50 winners came from MoviePoet?

Bill Sarre (Level 5) ~ 7/3/2012 3:17 PM

It would be nice to see MP writers but with that many, the odds are against.

I have to say i wasnt wholly sure with my script. It ticked the boxes and had a nice "feel good moment" but sometimes its difficult to know if it makes the connection with the readers. I had one script which i wasn't going to enter into the competition i wrote it for, but did for the sake of it, which then took a top three position against hundred plus. I was completely thrown.

The next script, which i did i like, got beaten up! Who knows.

Ammar Salmi (Level 5) ~ 7/3/2012 4:03 PM

Why didn't we all exchange scripts?
@JP
Moviepoets are not what they used to be. It's sad really. :(

Bill Clar (Level 5) ~ 7/3/2012 4:12 PM

I entered a while back. I like my story but I had to shoehorn Valentine's Day.

Bill Sarre (Level 5) ~ 7/18/2012 1:15 PM

For those interested, i believe they are releasing a long..err short... list this week, probably friday.

best of luck to those who entered.

Margaret Ricke (Level 5) ~ 7/18/2012 1:53 PM

The winning scripts will be announced on the 30th. Those go out to the filmmakers who signed up for it that same day.

Very exciting!

Caroline Coxon (Mod Emeritus) ~ 7/18/2012 4:27 PM

The long list of 508 (I think - anyway, 27% of entries) is being posted on the 50 kisses Facebook page tomorrow at about 9 UK time then a bit later on the website

Margaret Ricke (Level 5) ~ 7/19/2012 12:27 AM

Oohh! I'll be looking for your names.

Wes Worthing (Level 5) ~ 7/19/2012 6:46 AM

Just scanning the list I only see MJ's name - anybody else make the longlist?

Wes Worthing (Level 5) ~ 7/19/2012 6:46 AM

And way to go MJ - well deserved!!

Bill Sarre (Level 5) ~ 7/19/2012 9:02 AM

Spotted David Troop and thankfully myself on the list. There looks like a few other names from MP that I recognise but can't be certain - haven't been around MP that long.

Ammar Salmi (Level 5) ~ 7/19/2012 9:25 AM

Why couldn't I see my name on the list? :D

No reason to be disappointed for me. We already got three from the family confirmed among the winners which is worth celebrating. If we weren't geographically separated, we would have met somewhere and partied. Congratulation to all winners. I wish the scripts get in the hands of brilliant film-makers so they would be turned into gems for the screen.

David M Troop (Level 5) ~ 7/19/2012 9:38 AM

Say what?

Looks like the Movie Poet Short List is:

Business Card by Bill Sarre
Frankie by David Troop
Moving On by Bill Clar
There's Always Time by MJ Hermanny

I apologize if I missed your name.

Congrats and Good Luck to my fellow MP members.

I'm not getting my hopes up. That's quite a long list.

As they say... It's on honor just to be nominated.

Scott Merrow (Level 5) ~ 7/19/2012 9:48 AM

Congrats to MJ, David, and the Bills.

Extra congrats because it was in the romance genre!

Bill Clar (Level 5) ~ 7/19/2012 3:58 PM

I'd forgotten about the long list.

Pretty exciting to make the cut. Hopefully one, if not all of us, make it to the nifty fifty.

Wes Worthing (Level 5) ~ 7/19/2012 9:36 PM

In a post above I guessed at having 4 MPer's make top cut, so all 4 must move on!!

Bob Johnson (Level 4) ~ 7/23/2012 6:38 AM

Make that the Famous Five..!

Spirit of Love made it into the loooonnnngggg list too...

Margaret Ricke (Level 5) ~ 7/23/2012 8:54 AM

Congrats to ALL of you! Can't wait to read them!

David M Troop (Level 5) ~ 7/23/2012 10:11 AM

Sorry, Bob.
I knew I'd forget someone.

Belated congrats to you! And good luck to ALL!

Bill Sarre (Level 5) ~ 7/24/2012 2:57 PM

Well done Bob.

In case you are not aware, i have had an email stating there will now be a "short list" announced on the 31st july followed by the winners on the 3rd august.

I have to say i kind of expected that when they started off with 500 on a long list.

best of luck

Bill Clar (Level 5) ~ 7/24/2012 3:50 PM

Here's hoping that one or more of us makes the short list!

Bill Sarre (Level 5) ~ 8/2/2012 2:00 PM

Winners and short list out at 9am tomorrow UK time

Fingers crossed

David M Troop (Level 5) ~ 8/2/2012 2:55 PM

Will we here in the states get the news before the UK?
Never understood time travel. :(

Bill Clar (Level 5) ~ 8/3/2012 7:59 AM

Well, it looks none of the 'Fab Five' made it to the finals. Hey, it was a fun ride. Time to find a new one.

Caroline Coxon (Mod Emeritus) ~ 8/3/2012 8:01 AM

Bad luck all. It was a well-run contest, I thought, with coherent explanations about why they selected the scripts that they did.

Bill Clar (Level 5) ~ 8/3/2012 8:16 AM

@Caroline. Agreed. I'm enjoying their selection process. It does make sense why they can't have 50 shorts themed around a "Last Kiss", of which I fall in the category.

David M Troop (Level 5) ~ 8/3/2012 9:35 AM

I think the whole concept of the film and the contest is amazing.
I can't wait to see the finished film.

Anita Lindawaty (Level 0) ~ 9/2/2012 7:40 AM

ahhh... here it is! 50 kisses compotition, what Khamanna Iskandarova was asking me in his comment when he reviewed my first script.

no, i didn't join this competition, because i join moviepoet after this competition :)
so i din't know about it before.
