Biography: Like so many others, I aspire to write for a living. I've had a love for movies since I was kid, and always wanted to work in film. My two major interests have been editing and writing. However the only editing experience I have is editing my home movies.
I took my first stab at writing late 2008. I joined our Iowa Screenwriters Alliance in 2009, a state-wide organization devoted to helping writers. I was recently elected Vice President for ISA.
I've written several short scripts, and am working on the 2nd draft of my first feature. The longest thing I've completed to date was a 39 page "Feature Short" entitled "The Barber." It was a Quarter-finalist in the 15th Annual Fade-In Awards.
I studied intensely about screenwriting from 2008 - 2010, while trying to write, and am a firm believer the "spec format" can be as much a movie blueprint as it is a literary work of art.
My instruction is strictly of book and screenwriting blogs. My teachers are Dave Trottier, Mystery Man, The Unknown Screenwriter, and John August... maybe one day I'll get to meet one of them. :)
My wonderful wife has been very supportive of this dream, even if she doesn't always understand it. We are blessed to have three adorable children, all under the age of 9... in addition to working full-time, makes writing an inconsistent practice.
As much as I want to be a professional writer, I'd just be happy to have someone film one of my shorts. Always in pursuit of that elusive produced credit.
